“I would have devoured it already but the QR code videos are so much fun to watch.” Ali Grossman Video Producer, University of Wyoming

“I found myself laughing out loud at their raunchy sense of humor and I loved the videos!” Stacy Bridges, Activist and Co-founder GRAB Magazine Chicago

There was a time when a gay man and his female best friend were often referred to as a "fag and his hag." John and Mari reclaimed that bond in a remarkable story spanning more than four decades of friendship, creativity, secrets, and spiritual awakening.

Long before the internet transformed entertainment, two college friends set out to build careers in the theater. From acclaimed productions in Tucson, Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Sedona to sold-out performances and critical acclaim, they pursued an impossible dream—and achieved it.

Then Chicago changed everything.

After joining the Ruth Page Center for the Arts as instructors, they were recruited to create, produce, design, and star in a weekly underground adult stage show inside one of the city's most prominent gay bathhouses. The production became a cultural phenomenon—the first show of its kind to be simulcast worldwide online—drawing large audiences, including closeted Hollywood stars and other high-profile guests.

There was one condition: complete anonymity.

Bound by the venue's strict code of privacy, they could claim no public credit, no mainstream recognition, and no financial reward. Their greatest success remained hidden for more than two decades.

Now, the curtain finally rises.

Co-written by the duo, this candid, funny, and deeply moving memoir tells the untold story behind those extraordinary years. Featuring links to more than 70 original, never-before-seen videos created by the authors, this interactive memoir offers readers an unprecedented journey through hidden queer history, enduring friendship, fearless creativity, and the transformative power of living authentically.
